Telemetry glossary
The words you'll meet in a session, in plain English — and exactly how Lapnotes phrases each one when it reads your laps.
Apex
the clipping pointThe point where you're closest to the inside of a corner — roughly the middle of the turn. Where and how you hit it shapes both your entry and how early you can get back on the power. Apex too early and you run wide on exit; too late and you've scrubbed speed for nothing.

Balanced
neither pushing nor slidingThe kart turns without pushing wide or sliding — the front and rear give up grip together. Lapnotes labels a corner balanced when there's no clear understeer or oversteer to fix; the time, if any, is elsewhere.

Brake point
where you get off the throttleThe spot on track where you start braking for a corner. Telemetry shows it as the moment speed stops rising and longitudinal G turns negative. Moving it a few meters later is one of the cheapest tenths there is — and one of the easiest to overdo.

Consistency & “varies a lot”
how repeatable you areHow repeatable you are through a corner lap to lap. When the pace is there on your best lap but not the others, the fix is execution, not setup — Lapnotes flags that corner as varies a lot.

Delta (Δ)
time gained / lostThe time difference against a reference — usually how far ahead or behind you are versus your best or theoretical-best lap at the same point. A corner's delta is the time it costs you. Read the steps, not the straights.

Detrending / drift
slow delta change on a straightA gentle, steady change in the delta along a straight — usually a tow, a slight engine difference or GPS drift, not something you did. The honest read is to ignore it and chase the sharp steps at corners instead.

G (lateral & longitudinal)
cornering & braking forceLateral G is how hard you're cornering — grip used through the turn. Longitudinal G is braking and acceleration force. Together they show whether you're using the grip the kart has, or leaving some on the table.

Gyro & “no gyro data”
rotation sensorA gyroscope channel measures how the chassis rotates, which is what lets the data separate understeer from oversteer. Some loggers don't record it. When yours doesn't, Lapnotes still ranks the corner and times it, but says no gyro data rather than guess at a cause it can't see.

Lap map
the GPS trace, coloredThe shape of the track drawn from your GPS, colored by a channel — speed, braking, acceleration. Re-color the same lap in one tap to see the same corner three ways: where you're slow, where you brake, where you get back to power.

Lap time & best lap
the obvious numberHow long one lap took; your best lap is the quickest single lap in the session. It's the obvious number — but rarely the most useful one for getting faster.
Minimum speed
the slowest point in a cornerThe slowest you go between turn-in and apex — and the number that moves your lap time most. Carry a couple of km/h more through a mid-speed corner and you're quicker there and all the way down the next straight.

Oversteer
the tail steps outThe rear loses grip before the front, so the back steps out and the kart slides. Lapnotes calls this tail slides. A little can rotate the kart and help; too much costs time and tires, and spotting it reliably needs gyro data.

RPM & redline
engine revsEngine revs and the safe upper limit. Read alongside speed and gearing, the RPM trace shows whether your gearing suits the track — revs that bog after a corner mean too tall a gear or a short-shift; revs against the limiter well before the end of a straight mean the opposite.

Sector
a timed slice of the lapA slice of the lap. Splitting the lap into sectors (and corners) lets you compare the same piece of track across laps instead of judging the whole lap at once. Lapnotes detects the lap and splits it from your GPS automatically — you don't mark anything up.

Theoretical best
your best-possible lapYour fastest sectors from the session stitched into one lap — the time you'd set if you linked your best bits together. It's the benchmark Lapnotes ranks your corners against, because the gap to it is time you've already proven you can find.

Understeer
won't turn / runs wideThe front tires lose grip before the rears, so the kart turns less than you ask and runs wide. In Lapnotes you'll see this as won't turn in (it pushes on the way in, so you have to slow more to get it round) or runs wide on exit (it pushes as you get back on the power, costing exit speed). Lapnotes uses exactly this language on your own laps — corner, cause, verdict — so you spend the session driving, not decoding.
